In the biological sense, an animal, or human is one who has fully matured. Adults are considered to be a social notion as well as a legal concept in the human world. Legal adult means a person has reached the age of maturity and can be considered an independent, self-sufficient person and accountable. You can refer to them as a "major". There is a general belief that the threshold at which an individual becomes a legal adult is 18. It is possible for this to vary depending on legal rights and country and also on the psychological state.

The age of adulthood marks the point that the person is at maturity both in mental and physical development. Adulthood, as it is commonly understood, starts around the age of either 20 or 21. The typical middle-age begins around 40 years old, and is followed by around 60. The adulthood process is split into three phases: early adulthood (18-mid-30s) between mid-30s and the mid-60s then late adulthood from mid-60s up to the time of death. As we enter the initial phases of adulthood (between 20 and 40), our bodies have reached full maturation even though the weight and height of our bodies might increase a bit. As we enter our early twenties, our physical abilities are at their peak. They include strength of muscles as well as reaction speed.
